Turning classic board games into drinking games: Diplomacy

Well another classic game and another one that takes forever to play. People say Monopoly and risk are long games but those people have not played Diplomacy. Diplomacy the right way can take 2 hours for the first turn and go down from there until it reaches a tie. That's right there isn't even normally a winner just ties and losers, guess you could say shared victory. It think it is to show the point that WWI was not a winner but just sides that lost less. Through like WWI movement in this game is slow and deliberate. Each turn include a phrase of diplomacy where all players have an opportunity to talk to the other players and plan the turns moves. This part can take awhile.

After players have planned their moves the players write their moves down and then resolve the orders once everyone is ready. I won't go to far into explaining how the game works because this game more than any of the other ones you need to read the rules and think about the rules for like 30 minutes first so you can understand all the ways to move and how to resolve orders and conflicts.

The point of the game is take control of commend centers, which are major cities in the countries. Each center you control is another unit you can build at the start of a year. You can only have the number of units equal to the centers you control so yeah this is important.

Well the good news for turning it into a drinking game I was thinking of doing something like take a drink when you lose a center. Give a drink when you take a center but thinking about the game and the pace and how it is likely to take 7 hours unless you just turn it into two alliance and let two players do everything. Since that is not fun for the 5 other players that is not the version I am writing for. This is the 7 player version that may take days.

Find either a nice bottle of wine or Scotch. Pour each player a glass at the beginning of the game. Drink causally for the diplomacy phrase and put the glass down for the orders, retreat and build phrases. Refill the glass at the next round of diplomacy. Have a bottle of vodka nearby and take a shot each time the player from Russia makes a questions about the rules.

Take a shot each time a player is eliminated.

All players should read there orders in an accent of the country that they are playing as and if a player is able to go the whole game even diplomacy phrase with the accent they give a drink to the rest of the players. Additionally this should be played in a place that allows for cigar smoking through not required. Personally I do not smoke but it does seem like a game where people should smoke cigars while player.

Oh also take a drink when a friendship is ended because someone betrayed them. This is going to happen about 30 times in a game.

Good luck and enjoy.
