I was wrong about the Sixers

I'll be honest there are a lot of things I have been wrong about when it comes to the Sixers over the past couple of years. I thought Fultz was going to be the third star next to be Joel and Ben and that the trade was a good one. Wrong. I thought that Nik Stauskas would turn into a better version of JJ Reddick, a combination of shooting, average defense and ball handling. Way wrong! I thought that Dario is super fun to cheer for and should be a sixer for life, actually I was right about that.

Well, what I have been wrong the most about the Sixers is that they would be a championship team this year because Josh Richardson and Tobias Harris were going to be near All-Stars shooting career highs. Nope, I was wrong about that. The Sixers may still win the championship this year but it will not be because of Richardson and Harris. It will because Embiid and Simmons come back from their injuries and play like two of the top 5 players in the league. Is that likely no, is it possible yes.

I thought that Josh was going to be a better fit for the lineup than Reddick because he would provide slightly worse shooting but the uptick in defense and ball handling would be able to unlock the Sixers offense and defense. Maybe, I shouldn't be so hard on myself about this. Who could have guessed a player who shot around .360 from three would turn into a .322 shooter with better looks. Not me. Players are not supposed to get significantly worse in their age 26 season. Hey, maybe he will turn things around next year with the team. One can only hope because he is coming back next year. Hey, you have to shoot higher than .320 from the corner three.

I thought Tobias Harris would be a great player for the Sixers. I thought that he would be the perfect fit and the guy they should spend the cash on when he was a Clipper. The guy had 3 straight .400 season from 3. He looked good defending guys that were not stars and wouldn't need to with Ben and Joel. He is only 27 this season and before he got to Philadelphia he looked like a top 30 player. The perfect third star. I think about all the players I was wrong about this season, Harris is the one who has the best chance of turning it around quickly and turn into the player he was on the Clippers.

I think I was right about Al Horford in that I did not want him and it was a waste of cap space. I was wrong to think it would turn into Elton 2.0. The guy does not seem to try and for someone who was billed as this great defensive player. He is not. He does not defend the paint. He is too old and not the right fit. I talked myself into looking at his stats and thinking he will work because he is a decent three point shooter. He is not, at least this year. I don't know how the collective universe talking about the Sixers all being bad shooters turned the actual decent ones into bad shooters but it happened. Al Horford talked about not wanting to play Center as much and that's why he came to Philly, well turns out he can't guard 4s anymore and he looks disinterested going it when he is on the court. The Sixers are going to trade him this off season and guess what he is going to have a solid season next year for another team and I am okay with that.

Something else that I was right about, kind of Dario is a better player than Mike Scott. The Sixers should not have resigned Scott this off-season. He is the exact player he has been his whole career and for some reason people made him into a cult hero. I am not going to go into him as a player because he is exactly who he has always been but Dario having the worst shooting season of his career is still a significantly better player right now. Dario is going to be free agent please Sixers front office, whoever has the job or makes the decisions, bring him back.

Yeah so I was wrong about a lot of things about the Sixers this year. Are they most talented team in the East, probably not. Should they be favorites to make the finals no. Can they make the finals yeah, it's possible. I hope it happens but I am not expecting it. The rest of the season I am going to do my best to have zero expectations for the team and just enjoy the ride like the first season Embiid and Simmons played together. Well this article was for Luke. I hope he enjoys it and can admit he is wrong about Bryce Harper now.
