The next country to cover is France. Unlike Turkey they just seemed to be playing strategically unsound. Well I don't want to ruin the surprise of the game so let's look at the opening turn.
A good opening for France. It would have been better if Lon did not go to Eng but that can be taken care of with move to Bre from Mao to bounce any attack from Eng. They could are in a position to work with both Germany or England. Let's see where it goes from here.
Odd, France decided they don't care about the Northern part of the country and let England just jump across channel and capture Bre. Crazy, what was France thinking. They still get two builds so they should be able to get it back if they make that the focus of the next turn. I think I would build army PAR and Army Mar to and go Spa-Gas support from Par, Por-MAO, MAR to BUR, and Bel to Pic and take back Bre in the fall. If Germany takes Bel oh well I'll reclaim it later.
Well, France did not even come close to doing what I would have done. The fleet in Mar is a luxury and they could have made it work if they took the rest of the armies to try and claim Bre. Leaving Spa instead of moving it makes no sense. There is no strategy that would call for that. I think that is the worst than letting Eng taking Bre and not having a plan to get it back. Well who knows what France was thinking at this point. I guess we should also point out that the Bel move was invalid. Not looking good for France. Only player in worst shape is Austria.
See this is why Spa needed to be in Gas. If it was it could have supported Par to Bre and they would have drove England from the boarders. It would have forced Germany to either keep siding with a weakened England or swap sides to France and help with a counter attack. At the current time they offer nothing. I think there are still some chances that France could regroup. France is in a really tough spot and really needs Russia to put some pressure on England to just buy them time.
Well at this point it looks like France is making a yolo play for England mainland. England actually makes a tactical mistake here and a German, France alliance right now could cripple them. The major mistake is moving Eng to Bre. Yes, Mao could make the move to Bre but if they had done Eng to Mao and retaken Bre in the fall since there would have been no defense for it. I think the mistake that France made was going Wes -Tun. Either going to Mao, Lyo or Spa would put them in much better defensive position.Well, I guess you can't figure everything out.
Alright this is where the endgame for France and it does not go well for them. They should have done Wes to Spa and Mar to Spa double bounce protect the two centers and see what unit England takes off the board and make a push from there. England would have lost a unit, need two units to retake Lvp so there is a good chance they would back off on the attack on France. It would be an interesting decision for England and give France a chance take some the territory back if England removes an army. They might have taken ska off the board but that is true trust in Germany.
Well this is not going to be good for France. At this point they need an intervention form Italy to help them out. I know Italy said no and since England has the troops and Germany is not circling in behind them so they can wipe France out however they want. I might have done a hail mary and instead of trying to take spa gone Wes to Mao and Mar to Gas to try and retake Par and Bre. My idea is based on he assumption that Mao is going to Por and moving IRI is just asking for LVP to go get more of England. It wouldn't have changes the game but it might have recruited Italy by showing England weakness.
Yeah if Italy is going to help in the end there is nothing you can do here. Sorry France, you were in a bad spot and Italy is coming in to pick the scraps. Well at least now you can go reclaim Par in the next year...
Yeah at this point just wasting time waiting for the game to for France. with 1 unit left there is not much to do except try to mess a few plans up, I guess that's why they did what they did. I think they could have helped Italy out by getting them to go to Mao from Wes with support from Spa and do PAr to Bre in exchange for helping Italy take the south in the fall. I don't know if it would help but it something I would consider.
France problem started on the first turn. They could have saved it by dedicating a full out attack to taking Bre back right away. They didn't put there full force towards that and they falter once Italy and Germany sensed weakness and joined in. I think this shows you that if don't get allies you are not going to be long lasting. No one helped out and there were chances for them to turn the tied but that was a lack of understanding the territory. This was just a bad play by France.
