Okay, I gave it away in the title but I am not a Beatles fan. I know a lot of people consider their music to be generation changing and the greatest influence of human culture of all time. Sorry, Jesus we got John, Paul, George and Ringo as the great influences of humanity. Overall I find that there music is overrated and would personally rather listen to lots of other music first.
Well why would a nonbeatles fan go see this movie, well to be simple Lily James, face of an angel, who reminds me of the prettiest woman I have ever seen. Ladies, yes if you're reading this and thinking it's about you, you are the one. Now if you think this is great gesture and want to dump your current boyfriend who seems like a great guy give me a call and also this movie is definitely for you.
While the A plot of the movie is all about the fame a musician who suddenly started writing hits that weren't really his moves through life doesn't do much for me, the b plot of Lily James', Elle, trying to get his grade school crush to love her is way more compelling. It really seems like Jack is an idiot who doesn't know how to grab what he wants and just makes mistakes and alienates people.
Besides Lily James great acting, Ed Sheeran playing himself and Kate McKinnon great comedy chops this movie doesn't work well. That might because the rest of movie relies on the Beatles music to carry the emotional weight of the movie which doesn't hold sway for me.
I think a better movie would have been if there was actually major changes with the world instead of everything but the Beatles and Coke not existing is pretty much the same. (Yes cigarettes are gone too but I assume tobacco is still huge because it's popularity way outpaces the Beatles in time)
Okay movie i guess, can definitely kill 2 hours. 3 stars, also I am becoming a harder grader.

Shaft- taking aim at millennials
Samuel L. Jackson takes a super masculine approach and portrays his character as the ultimate example of toxic masculinity but at the same time is very cool. That's not really a fair representation of the character throughout the movie but it is how he starts out. The character arc and development for SLJ character was surprising as he smoothes out some of rough edges once he starts interacting with his son. Jessie Usher plays the son who starts out as a setrotypical millennial in the big city. Shaft describes him as a metrosexual and while I am not positive I know exactly what that means I do picture a man dressed like he does when I hear it. JJ being raised by his mother is a complete nerd and is often made fun of by his father.
The movie is at it's best when Shaft is making fun of JJ. Jackson and Usher have a great chemistry with each other and it shines through in these scences. Now there are downsides to the movie and a major one is the language. The language is not family friendly. The best way to describe this movie is to say it is not 2019 friendly which does not mean it's not funny just that it makes fun of women, lbgt community and race. Not safe topics.
Overall i felt the plot was a bit sloppy in the middle but solid overall. It had some funny moments and was an entertaining watch overall.

The Dead Don't Die, they just break the 4th wall
The dead don't die is a super political movie on the impact of climate change and materialism. It's human characters are doomed with a fate that cannot be escaped once fracking has gone too far and thrown the earth off its axis. This causes Zombies to raise from the dead and rain choas on the 738 inhabitants on Centerville.
Now the movie is definitely for those that have a cynical attitude and a dry sense of humor. The movie breaks the 4th wall constantly as Driver acknowledges the reason Murry thinks the song the dead don't die is familiar is because its the movie's theme song right after the opening credits.
Overall, I felt the acting was superb lead by Murray who seems to be playing himself as if he was the sheriff of a small town. Driver Seving and Swinton all do an excellent job in there roles, which are cartoon like in the way they act.
This could go on to be a detailed analysis of how climate change and materialism is destroying the world but that's not what my readers are here for. This an average movie that you should catch on TV unless you are cynical and love dry humor. If that's the case go see it.
